PREPARING A DISCUSSION IS FUNDAMENTAL:

THIS MUST BE DONE IN TWO DIRECTIONS:
FIRST, YOU NEED TO LEARN NEW VOCABULARY AND EXPRESSIONS THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO USE FOR THE DISCUSSION.
SECONDLY, YOU HAVE TO PREPARE THE TOPIC BY LOOKING UP INFORMATION IN THE INTERNET, BOOKS, ENCYCLOPAEDIAS.
THIS WAY YOU WILL FEEL MUCH MORE CONFIDENT AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL HAVE MUCH MORE TO TALK ABOUT.

FINAL TASK:

HERE IS ONE FINAL TASK THAT YOU MAY DO IN ORDER TO COVER THE FOUR SKILLS YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON WHEN LEARNING A LANGUAGE: LISTENING, READING, SPEAKING AND WRITING.

Write a composition and leave it in the blog as a comment to Session 24, I will edit it in the blog so that everybody can learn from other people´s opinions. Choose one of these two options:
  • Express your opinion. 'Is it immoral to spend a lot of money on luxury goods when there are so many people starving?'
  • Express your opinion. 'The crisis affects workers more than rich people'

  1. Many people are concerned about the recent economic situation. The number of unemployed are risen everyday and the number of companies which are closing their business are rising too. In this situation we can wonder, Are rich people investing less money in their companies recently? How does it affect to workers?

Firstly, too many cities have focused their economy in business like building, due to this fact, lots of building were built during several years. Consequently, many people bought several houses in order to get more money than they had to pay for them. However, the crisis appeared and their optimistic thoughts turned to pessimistic ones, so lots of these people got into trouble because of their financial situation.

Secondly, the fact that banks did not give money to employers to invest money in their business, or normal people to buy a house or to buy a car for example, leaded to many employers to close their companies and with them lots of workers lost their jobs. As everybody begin to earn less money, that was the reason why people begun to save it too, so in this way the economy of the country fall down very quickly and every different sectors of the economy suffer the effects of these events as well. We could think about the reality of whether it might have been avoided, but I suppose it has a difficult answer.

In conclusion, due to this difficult situation many companies are disappearing and those which go on, do not invest enough money. Therefore, this crisis lead them to carry on their business with a few workers, so in my opinion, everybody is suffering this crisis but workers are suffering more because of the reduction of their salaries or the lack of them.

  2. We are living in an unequal and unfair world.
On the one hand there are people who are rich or have a lot of money and they are working only for having more and more money to be able to waste in luxury goods to show others how rich they are.
On the other hand there are poverty people who do not have enough to be alive because sometimes they have nothing to eat. There are people who have been affecting by wars or natural disasters and their governments could not do anything to take out the poverty.
In the middle there are people who have only money or things that they need without luxury goods. This kind of people (the most of the time) supports others, they give money or other things to people that need it.
By point of view it is true that it is immoral to spend a lot of money on luxury goods when there are so many people starving. I would dare say that we should give more than we do to people who need and, especially rich people who have more money than they could waste.
