PREPARING A DISCUSSION IS FUNDAMENTAL:

THIS MUST BE DONE IN TWO DIRECTIONS:

FIRST, YOU NEED TO LEARN NEW VOCABULARY AND EXPRESSIONS THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO USE FOR THE DISCUSSION.
SECONDLY, YOU HAVE TO PREPARE THE TOPIC BY LOOKING UP INFORMATION IN THE INTERNET, BOOKS, ENCYCLOPAEDIAS.THIS WAY YOU WILL FEEL MUCH MORE CONFIDENT AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL HAVE MUCH MORE TO TALK ABOUT.

FINAL TASK:

HERE IS ONE FINAL TASK THAT YOU MAY DO IN ORDER TO COVER THE FOUR SKILLS YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON WHEN LEARNING A LANGUAGE: LISTENING, READING, SPEAKING AND WRITING.

Write a composition and leave it in the blog as a comment to Session 9, I will edit it in the blog so that everybody can learn from other people´s opinions.
Choose one of the following topics:

  • express your opinion: Intolerance and illiteracy go hand in hand
  • Muslims in Spain: prejudice and intolerance

  1. First of all, I think the most important way of discrimination nowadays and ever is discrimination against poor people. Talking about Muslins, their countries are between the poorest in the world, so their population, just for this, is suffering from discrimination.

But there are other reasons that made different Muslin from the rest of races, religion, countries, etc. It seems they have chosen a way that walks in opposite direction to western one. While western countries have kept religion away from political power, Muslim countries have placed it at the head of power what means they keep a social behaviour sometimes contrary to basic values in western societies, for example, discrimination against women.

All this have produced a confrontation between two worlds and caused, to make things a worse, a good excuse for extremist groups to use violence in defence of what they call Jihad.

Maybe because my education, of course, my position in this issue is totally in favour of secular states and complete respect for human rights.

  2. People are always afraid when new and unkown things appear in their lifes. It can be considered normal and usual because nobody can’t control his or her feelings. However, everybody should be able to control their acts and to do this in a suitable way, it is necessary to have own ideas and be critic with them.

I really think that is the most important point, because when we have learn about other cultures and other people, we will surely decide a right action when a novelty appears in our life.

In conclusion, I agree with the topic: “Intolerance and illiteracy go hand in hand”, because I really think at the end we are afraid of the poverty and the destitution, and we don’t feel a real fear of foreigners.
