SESSION 26: EXERCISES FOR DISCUSSION AND FINAL TASK

SESSION 26: EXERCISES FOR DISCUSSION AND FINAL TASK
2.2 EXERCISES FOR DISCUSSION
IN THE EXERCISES YOU HAD TO LOOK AT OFFICIAL TRAILERS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF FILMS.
  • What do you prefer, stand-alone films or sequels?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of sequels?
  • Is your favourite film ever a sequel or a stand-alone film?
  • How would you explain the concept 'sequelitis'? Do you think we are suffering from sequelitis nowadays?

PREPARING A DISCUSSION IS FUNDAMENTAL:

THIS MUST BE DONE IN TWO DIRECTIONS:
FIRST, you need to learn new vocabulary and expressions that you will have to use for the discussion.
SECOND, you have to prepare the topic by looking up information in the internet, books and encyclopaedias.
This way you will feel much more confident and at the same time you will have much more to talk about.

FINAL TASK

Here is one final task that you may do in order to cover the four skills you should focus on when learning a language: LISTENING, READING, SPEAKING AND WRITING.
Write a composition on the following topic and leave it in the blog as a comment to Session 26:

  • Write a film review of a sequel you have followed or are following at the present moment. Comment on:
  1. caracters throughout the saga or sequel.
  2. the part you liked best and why.
  3. if the sequel has already finished or if there is still the possibility of another part.

1 comment:

  1. To start with, I will say that the film industry have mainly two capacities, one for entertainment and the second one for art, and it is worth enjoying both of those kind of films.

More than a sequel, I have recently seen a new version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Filmmakers had a serious challenge, try to create a film using all the new technologies, as 3 dimension images, and write a new a script which was different from the older scripts.

When I left the cinema, I felt they have got their challenge, of course, new technologies give the new film a totally new aspect and you hardly remember the old ones, not only using 3D animation but mixing actors with animated cartoon made by computer.

In the same way, the script is completely original and although it is based on Lewis Caroll’s novel, it is more an extension than a version of the novel.

The only negative thing is that some characters, who are well known by spectators, do not have a very important part in this film, but on the whole I recommend everybody to see it.
